Power saving for traction lifts

Power saving for traction lifts by means of a regenerative braking package. 

The regenerative braking package is a smart and efficient alternative to dynamic braking for elevator drives with a lot of regenerative motor action. Suitable for both regenerative individual drives and converter drive systems and returns excess braking energy to the utility grid instead of converting it to heat. By replacing the brake resistor, 10-40% energy savings can be obtained, depending on the number of lift movements. 

Characteristics

• For lifts with a close loop frequency inverter.
• Replacing brake resistors saves space and allows for easy installation.  
• Since the braking resistor does not generate any heat, less cooling is required for the electrical cabinet. This saves energy and reduces costs.  
• Provides regenerative energy for other users and thus reduces the total energy consumption of buildings or factories. 
• Enables 4-quadrant operation without breaking resistor. 

Legislation

The Environmental Management Act is intended to make the Netherlands more sustainable step by step. The first step must be taken by January 1, 2023. 

The most logical step is to start limiting energy consumption. This can be done by adapting existing traction lift installations and equipping them with a regenerative braking package.
